July 26, 2001, Santa Monica, CA - Comspan Communications, Inc. ("Comspan") celebrated its ten year anniversary for providing live entertainment to the former Soviet Union. To mark the occasion, Comspan staged a gala benefit concert on Red Square featuring Placido Domingo who was joined by international opera stars including soprano Lubov Petrova, and metzo-soprano Marina Domashenko. The event was attended by over 2,500 VIP guests. Placido Domingo presented a check for 3,000,000 Roubles ($100,000 US) to President Putin's Head of Administration to benefit the preservation of cultural monuments in Russia.
Over the past 10 years, Comspan has presented a diverse range of live entertainment in Russia, from organizing the White Nights cultural festival, concerts of superstars such as Cheryl Crowe, David Bowie, Ringo Starr and Ricky Martin, the Champion Tennis Tour with Jimmy Connors, John McEnroe, and Bjorn Borg, the Harlem Globetrotters, Nutcracker on Ice, to fashion shows with supermodels Claudia Schiffer and Linda Evangelista.
In total, Comspan has presented over 200 events during the past ten years.
This coming fall, Comspan is bringing KISS, UB 40, Robert Plant, as well as fashion shows with Claudia Schiffer and Carmen Electra, and a basketball exhibition featuring Dennis Rodman.
Comspan was formed in 1989 by E! Entertainment founder Larry Namer. Its activities are currently headed by executive vice president Nataly Scherbakova.
